Max-er gives Model 16000 more capacity

15 April 2008

A Max-er attachment to increase capacity at radius is now available for the 440 ton capacity Manitowoc Model 16000 lattice boom crawler crane.

The attachment allows the addition of up to 256 tons of counterweight to raise longer booms and increase capacity at all radii. Boom length increases 394 feet from the standard 315 feet. Adding a luffing jib gives a maximum 570 feet of reach (295 + 275 feet) compared with the standard 452 feet (177 + 275 feet).

“Many times in petrochemical facilities, for instance, there isn't enough open area to set up the crane immediately adjacent to the lift site. So the contractors need the extra ‘up and over’ allowed by the Max-er,”explained Al Kadow, product marketing manager at Manitowoc for lattice boom cranes.

For the first time on a Manitowoc the stinger is hydraulic so the operator can hydraulically adjust the position of the Max-er behind the crane instead of having to adjust it manually on the mechanical stinger.
