KR Wind’s Terex-Demag CC 2800-1 NT ascends a 10° (17.6%) gradient on a 5 m wide track

KR Wind, a joint venture set up in 2002 by Denmark-based Enggaard and Mammoet is an international crane rental house specializing in wind turbine erection. The company was one of the first to purchase a Terex-Demag CC 2800-1 NT (Narrow Track) and put it straight to work erecting turbines at Kjollefjord on the north coast of Norway. The company’s task was to erect 17 turbines, each with an output of 2.3 MW.

Each 70 m high turbine carried an 87.1 tonne equipment pod, which housed the three rotor blades and hub.

To reach the installation sites, the crane had to travel up a 10° (17.6%) gradient on a 5 m wide track. Turbines needed to be erected at 400 m intervals. •
