New 1100 ton crawler in sight

Terex-Demag has announced that its new CC 5800 lattice boom crawler with a maximum lifting capacity of 1,000 tonnes (1,102 tons) and a maximum load moment of 12,860 tonne-metres, will be seen in iron for the first time by the end of 2005 and will be available to buy within 12 months. The new crane will in the product line between the 600 tonne (661 ton) maximum capacity CC 2800-1 and the 1,250 tonne (1,377 ton) CC 8800.

In Sideways Super Lift (SSL) configuration the CC 5800 will lift 1,000 tonnes.

On a boom length of 96 m (314 feet) it will lift 330 tonnes (363 tons) at a radius of 30 m (98 feet). Maximum hook clearance is more than 200 m (656 feet) and with its widest possible working radius at more than 150 m (492 feet), the crane is close to setting new records, Terex-Demag said.

A major selling point against other cranes of similar size is the maximum transport width of components when the crane is dismantled, of 3 m (9 feet).

This simplifies and reduces the cost of transport.

Other economic factors considered in the design include a faster rigging time and the installation of a hydraulically assisted boom pinning system.

Simplicity was a primary consideration in the design to keep the crane as simple as possible.

The CC 5800 is powered by a pair of 260 kW (350 hp) six cylinder DaimlerChrysler diesels, each running independently of the other. This means that, depending on circumstances, one engine can be switched off to improve fuel efficiency and prolong operating life.

The crane will also have IC-1, Demag's crane control system with color display, touch screen, indicators of operational status, and fault diagnosis.
