New report on tariff impact for construction equipment industry

Specialist market research and forecasting company Off-Highway Research has published a new report on the impact of US import tariffs on the country’s construction equipment market and manufacturing industry.

The report, which is free to download, analyses some of the price impacts and provides an update on the outlook for construction equipment sales this year in light of the tariff announcements.

It also includes discussion of strategies to minimise tariff impacts for OEMs, and presents a summary of actions taken and expected impacts gathered from key industry stakeholders.

Off-Highway Research managing director, Chris Sleight said, “The US has been a net importer of construction equipment since the 1980s, and there are some categories of equipment which are not made in the US, or which are only made by a small number of suppliers.

“With no, or only limited domestic options available, tariffs will inevitably have an impact on construction equipment prices and will therefore depress demand. In addition, domestic manufacturers will see higher input costs on imported components, which they will have to pass onto customers.”

He continued, “These issues affect all suppliers in the marketplace. Even many of the larger American brands rely on overseas equipment manufacture to serve the US market and source components from around the world.”

The report will be invaluable reading for manufacturers, equipment buyers, component suppliers and other stakeholders active in the American construction equipment market.
