A new Tadano GTC-600-2 crawler crane delivered to Scott Powerline and Utility Equipment has completed its first deployment.

Contracted by Chain Electric Company, the crane was part of the project to install eight miles of new 230 kV transmission towers to support a new data centre located in Meridian, Mississippi.

Riley Beck, area supervisor for Chain Electric picked up the story. “Scott Powerline called us about the 600-2 and said it was available, and it was really just what we need for this project. We’re glad we got the opportunity to use it first because it can set the poles and hang the arm and do everything we need with one crane.”

The 60-ton GTC-600-2 builds on the features of its 55-ton predecessor, with jib capacities to 2.5 degrees out of level, dual hook operation with auxiliary nose sheave or jib, power winches with 16 mm rope and remote control for all rigging operations.

A closed-loop hydrostatic system provides operators with smooth and precise control. The crane operator can set zone limits for swing angle, height and radius. If the crane approaches these limits it will initiate a soft stop.

Additionally, the GTC-600-2 includes the Tadano AML-C rated capacity indicator, with operating load charts for 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 and 4 degrees of slope.

The 60-ton teleboom crawler can be moved on one haul truck, helping to reduce move complexity and cost.

“The GTC 600-2 is a great crane and really easy to move, which makes for a really good product in the powerline industry,” said Jay Lee, Scott Powerline account manager.
