Talbert Manufacturing launched the new 55SA-LD trailer, a 55-ton capacity spread-axle, low deck trailer that features an 18-inch deck height.

Talbert Manufacturing impressed its customers this week with the launch of its new 55SA-LD trailer, a 55-ton capacity spread-axle, low deck trailer that features an industry leading 18-inch deck height. The 55SA-LD is equipped with an E1Nitro that so it can run with three axles, four axles close-coupled or as a 3+1 spread-axle.

The highly versatile trailer is an optimal solution for haulers who need the flexibility of a low deck height and the flexibility to run a variety of configurations, according to Greg Smith, vice president, sales and marketing.

He said the deck height is two inches lower than Talbert’s standard 55SA unit.

“The extra two inches provide a tremendous advantage for haulers who need to haul heavy and oversized equipment under bridges or through tunnels with low clearance rather than making trips around,” he said. “In addition, the lower deck height equates to additional load opportunities.”

The standard Talbert 55SA-LD features a non-ground bearing hydraulic gooseneck design with a 108-inch swing radius. The trailer’s 24-inch flip gooseneck extension results in a 132-inch swing radius that allows haulers to transfer additional load from the drive axles to the steer axle of their tractors. The E1Nitro also allows companies to expand their service regions into states that require the fourth axle to be at least 14 feet, 1 inch from the third axle.

The E1Nitro makes the 14-foot, 1-inch spread between the third and fourth axles possible. The system articulates left and right and uses nitrogen to equalize the up and down movement to provide proportionate weight distribution in each axle grouping.

The four-beam trailer is constructed with 12-inch, T-1 main beams and two inches of apitong decking. It also features 12-inch swinging, removable outriggers for wider loads and a 25-foot, 6-inch cleared deck length (26 feet actual).
