Terex kicks off ConExpo with new model introductions

Terex Cranes opened ConExpo Con/Agg 2014 with the introduction of the Crossover 8000, an 80-ton capacity boom truck that features the upper works of the Terex 780 truck crane and X-pattern outriggers. Mounted on a Freightliner chassis, the Crossover 8000 is the largest capacity boom truck available in North America, according to Terex.

As well, the new Crossover 8000 is the first of the Crossover range to have the recently introduced Terex cab that tilts 18 degrees and features a heated seat, standard air-conditioning and electronic joystick controls. Optional hydraulically removable counterweight packages are available at 5,000 pounds, 7,000 pounds, 11,000 pounds and 15,000 pounds.

Also new to the North American market is the Terex Explorer 5600. The 5-axle all-terrain crane has a lifting capacity of 180 tons and has a maximum boom length of 223 feet and a maximum system length of 312 feet. With a length of 46.9 feet and a carrier width of 9.02 feet, the compact Explorer 5600 was designed for ease of transport, Terex said.

Also impressive on the Terex stand is the Superlift 3800, which is being shown for the first time in North America. When it was shown at Bauma last year in Munich, Germany, the Superlift 3800 was shown in a typical configuration for wind tower erection. The model shown in Las Vegas is rigged in what the company described as a power plant configuration. The crane is rigged with a massive ballast wagon and with the 86 meter boom and 64 meter luffing jib. Terex said the crane was the tallest boom at ConExpo, ever.

The Superlift 3800 has a maximum lifting capacity of 715 tons, a maximum boom length of 422 feet and a maximum tip height of 630 feet.

Rounding out the cranes at the Terex stand is the Quadstar 1100 rough terrain crane. The 110-ton, 2-axle RT has been improved, the company said, and features easier access for maintenance and operations.
