With Covid-19 continuing to cast its shadow across the world, it has been another challenging year for the global crane industry.
However, there has still been plenty of activity as stakeholders continue to adjust to a new normal and carry out business as usual.
We look back at some of the biggest and best stories from throughout the year…

Having braced for a negative impact from the coronavirus on this year’s table, it was a pleasant surprise to see it wasn’t the case. The opposite could even be said to have happened.

2 - Vestas invests in Salamander turbine erection crane
Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has taken a stake in S&L Access Systems for it to help further develop the Salamander Quick Lift Crane Technology for wind turbine erection and maintenance.
3 – Zoomlion shows 450 tonne tower crane
Crane and construction equipment manufacturer Zoomlion has launched what it claims is the world’s largest top slewing tower crane.
The 450 tonne capacity W12000-450 flat top was first shown in the iron at the company’s factory in Changdu, Hunan Province, China.

5 – Manitowoc launches two all terrain cranes
In October, manufacturer Manitowoc launched two new all terrain cranes, the Grove GMK5120L and the Grove GMK5150XL, at the company’s Wilhelmshaven facility in Northern Germany.

A 4,500 tonne capacity crawler crane was built by Sany and handed over to its first customer.
Favelle Favco Cranes introduced a new luffing jib tower crane model
8 – ‘Big Carl’ lifts steel ring onto second reactor
Tagged as the world’s biggest crane and nicknamed Big Carl, the giant Sarens SGC-250 has been in action again at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset, UK.
9 – New 40 tonne Tadano all terrain
The Tadano AC 2.040-1 was on show to customers in October 2021 prior to its December launch. We revealed the details, here.
10 - New 36 tonne luffer from Favco
In April, Favelle Favco Cranes introduced a new luffing jib tower crane model, the MK380F, for general construction applications.
