Priceless chandelier rescued from earthquake zone

Italian crane manufacturer Effer supplied a 655 loader crane to help recover a priceless historical chandelier from the Sant'Agostino town hall, which had been ripped apart in the 6.0 magnitude earthquake of May 20 around Ferrara, Italy.

Italo Balbo, the famous Italian aviator and politician, presented the chandelier, made from Murano glass and dated back to the 1920s, to the city of Sant'Agostino.

The chandelier, which decorated the ceiling of the council chamber destroyed by the earthquake, was recovered by the city's fire department through the use of an Effer model 655 with six extensions and six fly-jib extensions. The crane was equipped with hydraulic shears, used to cut the cable attaching the chandelier to the ceiling.
