Scholpp Kran & Transport used a Terex AC 200 and Terex AC 300 to replace lock gates on the Main

Germany-based crane service provider Scholpp Kran & Transport brought in Terex AC 200 and AC 300 all terrain cranes for a challenging lift on the Main river.

Aschaffenburg Water and Shipping Authority employed the Heilbronn branch of Scholpp Kran & Transport to lift and replace lock gates at the Klingenberg and Freudenberg locks and enable staff to carry out maintenance work.

The massive riveted gates at the Klingenberg lock had been in use for 80 years. They were replaced with modern, welded gates as part of the renovation project.

The 300 metre long and 14 m wide lock with a water depth of 11.5 m had to be drained to replace the gates.

It took two hours for three Scholpp team members to set up the cranes, with a counterweight of 69 tonnes for the AC 200 and 76 tonnes for the AC 300. Once assembled, the lock gates' fasteners were removed and the loads were lifted and set down next to the gates within a working radius of 24 m. Work platforms were then lifted into the lock chamber to enable maintenance work to be carried out.

The entire project took 17 days.
