Sarens Handles Jackets For Neart Na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm

Sarens was asked by our client to offload, transport, and again load-out 54 jackets for the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm in Sløvågen, Norway. Each jacket weighed 1450T. These jackets will be installed at depths ranging from 40 to 60 meters off the Fife coast in Scotland.

The jackets, crafted in Asia, embarked on a journey to Wergeland Base in Gulen, Norway, via Heavy Transport Vessels operated by Cosco. Upon arrival, each vessel was loaded with 10-14 jackets, and Sarens took charge of the offloading operations and subsequent movements to the storage area for marshalling.

The project was initiated with a request just before Christmas in 2022. The Engineering Department promptly commenced its work, with initial drawings reaching the client in the early days of 2023. Mobilisation of 32 trucks with equipment began in February, with the first shipment successfully arriving on the 12th of February.

Addressing concerns about ground-bearing pressure on the quay, Sarens supplied load-spreading material to distribute the weight evenly on the ground. The equipment was selected accordingly. Sarens deployed:

• 104 axle lines SPMTs and 4 Powerpacks
• 12 Ro-Ro bridges
• 70 hard wooden load spreading mats
• 6 50-tonne capacity winches
• Ballast equipment
• Crawler crane SCX 2800

Sarens used its 104 axle-lines Kamag K24ST SPMTs for unloading and transporting the jackets upon arrival at the designated site. Three shipments reached the site with ten, fourteen, and twelve jackets each. These jackets were scheduled for deployment at their final locations during the summer season.

To facilitate the loading from storage to the barge, Sarens once again deployed its specialized SPMTs, ensuring the careful transportation of three jackets in each shipment. The process continued with precision until September. Additionally, Sarens delivered mooring and ballast equipment during the load-out onto the barge.

By overcoming logistical challenges and adhering to a tight schedule, Sarens has contributed significantly to the progress of the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm, marking another milestone in the company’s storied history of delivering complex projects with excellence.
