Denzai finishes heavy lifting on first African project
30 June 2025

Heavy lifting, transport and construction specialist Denzai KK from Japan has completed the heavy lifting work on its first contract in Africa.
Its group company, Denzai International Projects, Co., Ltd., is working on the Indorama 3 fertiliser production plant project in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The main contractor is Daewoo E&C Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Daewoo Engineering & Construction. The project was awarded by Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL).
Denzai provided technical planning, crane operators and leased a 1,350 tonne capacity Liebherr LR 11350 crawler crane, initially for three months. See the original story.
During the 3-month contract period, DENZAI performed a total of 19 heavy lifting operations – seven in the Ammonia Area and 12 in the Urea Area – with a combined total weight of 4,350 tonnes.
Improving yields
The Indorama Fertilizer Line 3 will have the capacity to produce 2,300 tonnes per day of ammonia and 4,000 tonnes per day of urea. The project will support fertiliser consumption and promote the successful use of arable land which should increase crop yields and food security in Nigeria, Denzai said.
Commenting on the milestone Kohki Uemura, Denzai KK president and CEO, said,
“We are pleased that we have successfully completed this project, the first of its kind in Africa. We sincerely hope that the construction of this fertiliser plant will contribute to improving the efficiency of agricultural production in Nigeria, and help alleviate the food crisis in Africa.”
For his part Jeong Won Seo, director at Denzai International Projects in Nigeria, said, “Working on the Indorama 3 project was both a technical and logistical challenge, but one we were proud to take on. From planning through execution, our team worked to ensure every lift was performed safely and efficiently. We’re honoured to have contributed to the success of this critical infrastructure project in Nigeria.”
