IC100: The definitive ranking
20 March 2025
For three decades, the IC100 has been the definitive ranking of the world’s largest crane-owning companies. Published annually by International Cranes and Specialized Transport magazine, the IC100 (formerly the IC50) charts the industry’s biggest players, showcasing their lifting capacity and market presence.
More than just a list, it has become a benchmark for success, a source of industry knowledge, and a badge of honour for companies competing at the highest level. If your company operates a significant crane fleet, now is the time to get involved and secure your place in this prestigious ranking.
Get involved
We’ve already received some entries for this year’s list, so, if your company has not yet taken part, this is your chance to ensure it takes its position in the listing.
We calculate the IC100 figure by totalling the maximum load moment rating, in tonne-metres, of all mobile and crawler cranes in your fleet on 5 May 2025.
Simply fill out the IC100 entry form here and submit it to us. If you send us a list of the cranes in your fleet, which would be helpful, please include the make, model, type, capacity and number of units for each model.
If you have any questions regarding the form or require help representing tonne-metres, contact the editor, Alex Dahm, by phone: +44 (0)1892 786206 or email: [email protected]
Please be sure to return your completed entry form before the Monday 5 May 2025.
A brief history
The IC100, formerly the IC50, was updated in 2022 to better reflect the fact that for some time, it had really included 100 companies, at least in terms of statistics, if not other things.
Back in 1995, International Cranes magazine published the very first IC50. Then the magazine’s name was changed to International Cranes and Specialized Transport in 2004, when it became the official publication of the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association.
Today, the top lists produced by International Cranes and Specialized Transport are legendary and the lists are now in their 30th year.
“Something we are particularly proud of are the pioneering IC top lists, led by the IC50 ranking of the world’s largest crane companies,” said Alex Dahm, editor of ICST, in his column in the October 2017 issue, which marked the 25th anniversary of the magazine.
Charting major change

“The IC50, since renamed IC100, was the first of its kind. Its development has charted major change among the world’s top crane owners and includes an element of sporting rivalry between contenders with the greatest capability which generates anticipation each year prior to publication. We have expanded the concept with separate lists covering tower cranes and specialized transport equipment.”
Today, the top lists produced by ICST are legendary and pretty much everyone wants to be on these lists. (A few companies choose not to participate for privacy reasons.) But for the most part, crane, transport and rigging companies can’t wait to get the survey forms and are excited to see how they rank each year.
How are each top lists ranked?
Rankings often provide bragging rights, and these companies often use their ranking as a marketing tool.
The rankings for the magazines lists cover the entire global industry. We don’t sell our lists, and the data we gather is provided exclusively to our readership. And we’ve created one of the leading benchmarks for the crane and transport industry ever compiled.
“ICST is no longer just a magazine,” Dahm said. “We are the world’s largest supplier of information for this industry, whether that be in print, digital, data, market research or face-to-face. Whichever way the industry wants to receive its information, we provide it. The magazines are now very much part of the industry rather than just a supplier.”

2024 results: Growth and change
While nothing changed at the top with Mammoet retaining its number one spot in the 2024 IC100, its nearest rival, Sarens, is now ever so much nearer to it than ever before.
In 2023, the gap between the two was 646,318 Index points but in 2024 that was slashed to less than half that, at 319,530 points.
In 2023, Sarens was 81 % the size of Mammoet while now it is 91 %. Mammoet is less than 2 % bigger than it was last year but Sarens is 13.58 % bigger.
Add another couple of blue and yellow super heavylift cranes before May and this year’s IC100 could have a new leader.
