Kuehne+Nagel Group has won a contract to transport components of 190 wind turbine generators and 67 towers for Envision Energy to the NEOM special economic zone in Saudi Arabia.

In total 1.4 million freight tonnes of turbine components will be transported in a project to be completed in 2025.

Kuehne+Nagel said a team of more than 100 people, in project logistics, vessel chartering experts, transport engineers, drivers and riggers, will work together on this project. An office has been established in the city of Tabuk in Saudi Arabia.

Energy transition milestone

Commenting on the contract win Stefan Paul, Kuehne+Nagel International CEO, said, “This is a major milestone in Kuehne+Nagel’s Roadmap 2026, our new strategy that we presented in March this year. We see great potential in providing solutions for renewable energy customers and the NEOM project is a testament to our logistics expertise in this high-growth field that supports the global energy transition.”

NEOM is a special economic zone in the northwest of Saudi Arabia. The name means ‘new future’ and the idea is that it will be a model for sustainable living powered by renewable energy. The Line is a carbon-neutral linear smart city being built on the Red Sea as part of  NEOM.

The NEOM wind farm will have the capacity to produce 1.67 GW of renewable energy. Its electricity will be used in industrial scale production of hydrogen for the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company.
