BigLift completes REEF project equipment deliveries

BigLift has completed transport and discharge of hardware to be used in the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) project.

Located near Prince Rupert in British Columbia, the REEF project will support large-scale delivery of LPG and other bulk liquid gas deliveries from Canada to markets in Asia.

BigLift, which is part of the Spliethoff Group, completed 10 trips to the REEF project, an AltaGas and Vopak joint venture.

Under way

The project started with transportation of steel structures, marine piles and other specialised equipment. Other elements delivered to the site included the first two trestle modules which will be used as part of the jetty and liquid export piers. The company also delivered the pipe rack system to be used at the rail off-load facility.

Challenges included the pre-sorting of hundreds of piles, all of various lengths, weights and diameters.

The four vessels used in the project had to be fitted to suit individual loads. In addition, the team designed the temporary mooring system for positioning of the S-Type vessels. Engineered for reuse across multiple mooring locations, the systems provide a flexible and cost-effective solution, while supporting project safety.
