Grove adds new ATs

Now available in the US is the 220 ton capacity GMK5275, (GMK5220 outside the US) which was launched in Paris, France, in February. Mounted on five axles, the GMK5275 has a lift capacity of 15.4 tons at its maximum boom point of 223 feet and at a radius of 65.6 feet. The seven-section boom features Grove's TWIN-LOCK pinning system and takes only 460 seconds to fully erect.

There is a 39 foot – 69 foot bifold luffing swingaway, which can accommodate up to two 26.2 foot inserts to provide a maximum tip height of 354.3 feet. The jib can be hydraulically ofset between 5 to 40 degrees using controls in the crane cab. The GMK5220 has one of the strongest lifting charts in its class, the manufacturer claims, with a 15.4 US ton capacity on its fully-extended boom.

This is the result of the newly enhanced Megaform boom profile and further engineering design improvements. The new design features a stronger, lighter carrier incorporating a new hydraulic-electronic steering system. This new “steer by wire” system also reduces tire wear and improves drive quality.

Glen Tellock, president and general manager of Manitowoc Crane Group, said he has high hopes for the new model, “Grove's all-terrains are second to none and this latest GMK is truly one of the strongest in its class. It also offers a greater range of configurations – a result of significant end user input into the engineering of this crane,” Tellock said. “The global market for all-terrains is very strong at present, and there is significant demand for larger cranes. With Grove's reputation in the industry continuing to grow, I'm certain the GMK5275 will soon take its place as the market leader in its class.”

Also new from Grove is the two axle 38 ton (35 tonne) capacity GMK2035E, a new version of the GMK2035. It has the same capacity rating and the same 95 foot boom but, instead of the Megatrak independent suspension system, it has conventional rigid axles and hydrogas springing.

Another difference from the existing GMK2035 is that the E version has a manually offset jib while the hydraulic luffing version is available as an option.

The GMK2035 will be exhibited for the first time at this month's Intermat exhibition for the construction industry in Paris.
