JJ Curran Crane celebrates 75 years
29 January 2025
Detroit, MI-based JJ Curran Crane, a crane rental services company, is proudly marking its 75th anniversary with the theme Lifting Together: 75 Years of Family and Community.

Founded in 1950 by John (JJ) Curran as Dearborn Excavating, the company started with a single backhoe before expanding into crane services. In 1954, the purchase of a Lorain 30-ton mobile truck crane set the stage for a major transformation. By 1959, JJ Curran Crane had fully dedicated itself to crane rentals, earning a reputation for reliability and excellence.
Pioneering innovation in the Detroit market, JJ Curran Crane introduced hydraulic truck cranes in the 1970s, reshaping the industry and further solidifying its role as a trusted provider of heavy lifting solutions. Now led by Jeff Curran, son of the founder, the company remains family-owned and continues to modernize its fleet, offering cranes ranging from 8 to 450 tons.
“Lifting Together: 75 Years of Family and Community is more than a campaign—it’s a celebration of the values that have shaped our journey,” said Jeff Curran, president, JJ Curran Crane. “We are grateful to our employees, customers and partners who have supported us along the way. Together, we reflect on our shared accomplishments and look ahead to a future guided by the same principles that built this company.”
Throughout 2025, JJ Curran Crane will host anniversary celebrations, recognize employees and share reflections on its history and milestones.
