LGH adds massive spreader beam to fleet

Lifting equipment rental firm LGH has expanded its heavy lift capabilities with the introduction of a new 1,500 tonne capacity modular spreader beam.

LGH said the investment reflected growing demand from infrastructure and industrial sectors where larger and complex lifts require high-capacity equipment.

The spreader beam is DNV-rated, which makes it usable in offshore and marine lifting, such as on heavy-lift vessels, pipe-lay ships, and offshore wind projects.

The beam, which has been given the name ‘Megamond’, was engineered by UK company Modulift and is rated at 1,500 tonnes WLL at a 20 metre span.

When delivered, the beam will travel from LGH’s Antwerp workshop to a heavy-tonnage load testing project, with future applications including offshore installation, infrastructure projects such as bridge construction, marine crane testing, and heavy industrial lifts.

It joins LGH’s rental fleet of spreader beams from six tonnes up to 1,500 tonnes, alongside rigging equipment including shackles, slings, load cells, load links, winches and sheave blocks.

LGH said the modular design of the Megamond allows for fast mobilisation, easy transportation and adaptable configurations across a wide range of lift applications. It also has trunnion ends, offering shackle-free rigging ideally suited to heavy loads, and allows load rotation. The trunnion ends are interchangeable, ensuring flexibility across LGH’s fleet.
