Manufacturer XCMG in China has completed the first half of the 14,000 tonne capacity ring crane it is building for the engineering division of the Sinopec national oil company.
Sinopec Heavy Lifting & Transportation Co., Ltd., plans to use the crane for nuclear power plant construction around the world.
XCMG revealed the first of two modules making up the 14,000 tonne capacity super heavy lift ring crane first announced to the world by Crane and Transport Briefing in 2024. The two 7,000 tonne capacity units will work in tandem, combined to make the largest-capacity ring crane ever built, XCMG said. Its combined total maximum load moment rating will be 700,000 tonne-metres.
“This crane is more than an incremental improvement; it represents a transformative leap for the global heavy-lifting industry,” said Yang Dongsheng, XCMG Group and XCMG Machinery chairman. “Our partnership with Sinopec has created a new integrated model spanning R&D, manufacturing and application, setting an industry benchmark for independent innovation and engineering application of major technical equipment.”
