China’s largest crane and construction equipment manufacturer XCMG and a division of the country’s national oil and gas company Sinopec have signed a contract for a 14,000 tonne crane.

According to the 10 October contract XCMG will build the giant ring type and rail mounted crane for Sinopec Heavy Lifting & Transportation Co., Ltd. ICST announced a Sinopec 14,000 tonne crane in September 2024.

It is not the first time the two companies have worked together. Sinopec and XCMG previously worked together on the 4,000 tonne capacity XGC88000 crawler crane, a double lattice boom design typically used for super heavy vessel lifts in refineries and chemical plants.

Technical results

The collaboration which started in 2015 has produced the lElectric Direct Drive Technology to reduce a crane’s energy consumption by more than 30 per cent and increases efficiency by 25 %, XCMG said.

The lMulti-Condition Adaptation Structure is the other main product of the collaboration. It allows one crane to meet the varying needs of lifting projects both at long and short radii, resulting in “one machine with multiple functions,” the company continued. The same crane in different configurations will be able to complete super heavy vessel lifts to a great height at short radius in refineries, plus things like nuclear power dome lifts at very long radius.

The new crane will help shorten construction cycles on large projects, XCMG said.
