In cooperation with the NCCCO Foundation, the National Safety Council has developed several resources for people who operate and work around cranes.

The Work to Zero initiative at the National Safety Council in the USA, in partnership with the NCCCO Foundation, has developed data-driven content for individuals working in and around cranes to increase the awareness of risks and highlight technology solutions to reduce serious injuries and fatalities. The resources include five reports produced from surveys conducted over the past year. They include

  • Understanding the Current State of Safety Hazards in the Crane Industry, which summarizes the findings of a survey of more than 2,000 certified crane operators, riggers, signalpersons, directors and inspectors regarding safety in the crane industry, including detailed charts and graphs and ways to take action to address common hazards.
  • Potential Technology Solutions to Address Hazards in the Crane Industry report expands on the survey findings and examines the current state of crane industry hazards and potential technology solutions to address those risks, including an overview of 13 safety technology solutions with the potential to eliminate or mitigate risks within the crane industry.
  • Use of Drones for Crane Safety case study explores how Huddleston Crane Service began investing in drones to mitigate risks faced by their workers and to facilitate both lift planning and emergency response planning.
  • Camera Solution for Operating in the Blind case study explores how Garney Construction piloted HoistCam, which allows operators to view real-time video footage of the worksite, providing direct visibility of the load, the surrounding area and potential blind spots.
