The world’s largest tower crane-owning company, NFT, placed the first order for Manitowoc’s new 80 tonne Potain flat top tower crane launched on 26 November.

Abu-Dhabi headquartered NFT chief executive officer Nabil Al Zahlawi signed the deal for eight units of the Potain MCT 2205 during the Bauma China exhibition in Shanghai. They will be used on the Trojena project in Saudi Arabia and will be erected to a hook height of 94 metres.

The new model, with a jib up to 80 metres is the largest flat top made at the Zhangjiagang factory in China. This model is for emerging markets and is not CE-marked for sale in Europe.

Options for flexibility

Its entire slewing section, including 11 sections of jib, can be transported in 16 trailers or containers, Manitowoc said. Two options are available for the counter jib, according to application. One is the full 25.2 metres and there is 20.2 metre one for more congested job sites. Counter weight options are concrete or steel and concrete.

“Manitowoc has leveraged its decades of expertise in developing large-capacity tower cranes to design a topless crane that meets our customers’ lifting requirements in this new era of construction,” said Kwong Joon Leong, Manitowoc regional product manager. “We are already seeing a great deal of interest from those working on large infrastructure projects, power plants, and other mega projects that require the lifting of very heavy loads.”

NFT topped the latest IC Tower Index ranking of the world’s largest tower crane-owning companies announced on 05 December 2024.
