Nine new Jaso tower cranes for Falcon
04 February 2025

Tower crane rental specialist Falcon Tower Crane Services in the UK is expanding and updating its fleet with the acquisition of a total of nine new cranes from Jaso.
The first four new cranes from the Spanish manufacturer are already erected on site in Wales. They are the 24 tonne capacity J390 low top saddle jib model with a 3.8 tonne tip load. Contractor Sacyr is using the cranes to build a new cancer hospital in Cardiff. They replace the slightly smaller J300N.A models sold out of the fleet in 2023 and 2024.
Maximum jib length on the J390 is 75 metres and the counter jib options are between 15.3 and 19.9 metres to help manoeuvrability where space is restricted. For easier erection and dismantling the counter weight slabs lay flat.
Distinctive features
Freestanding height can be up to 90 metres on a 2 x 2 metre mast.

For rapid hoisting there is a 65 kW winch with a maximum speed of 118 metres a minute. Its mechanism has an IP55 rating for protection against dust and water ingress.
Technology to help with safety and efficiency are a strong focus, including programmable logic controller (PLC) drives, built in collision avoidance system and a secondary brake.
The other five cranes ordered are all J235.12 flat top models that will expand the Falcon fleet. They are due for erection in the first quarter of 2025 on various contracts in the south of the UK.
