Jekko launches range-topping crawler crane

The new Jekko JF1050 is a 22 tonne capacity telescopic articulating boom crawler crane.

It is the largest model in the Italian manufacturer’s range, offering a maximum tip height of 34.5 metres. A key feature of this type of crane is the boom’s three articulation points to allow it to reach over obstacles and under things at a negative angle. 

The latest model replaces the JF990 and is designed to be able to operate anywhere from confined urban jobsites to restricted industrial spaces containing obstacles. Applications include construction, industrial machinery maintenance and data centre plant installation.

Good boom design is fundamental to any crane and the JF1050 uses the X-Design decagonal section from fellow Italian crane manufacturer Fassi, which is a major shareholder in Jekko. It helps increase lifting performance, especially where the boom is near vertical.

The ten-sided design optimises the distribution of stress in the boom structure, giving improved load charts under all operating conditions while maintaining minimal crane weight, Jekko said.

Driving force

Power is from a combined bi-energy diesel engine and electric powerpack. Operation can either be via the low-emission diesel engine or the integrated electric motor. Outdoors it can run autonomously on the diesel engine while inside it offers emission-free electric operation. Switching between the two can be done seamlessly, the manufacturer said.

A new feature is Variable Speed Engine Management to more closely control the engine for more efficient movement and lower fuel consumption. Movements are faster, more precise and smoother, Jekko said.

Power system and crane information is shown on a new 7 inch (180 mm) touch screen. It is rate IP66 against water ingress and can show the crane’s stability, in real time, as it changes when slewing and altering the radius, etc.

A Swiss Army knife element to the new crane allows multiple configurations, including hook or winch lifting, hydraulic jib operation with hydraulic tools such as grapple saws or beam grabs and it can be fitted with a basket for work at height.
