Crowland Cranes takes on Franna
30 July 2025

Hire, sales and service specialist Crowland Cranes has taken on the UK distributorship for Franna pick and carry cranes.
Built in Australia by Terex the Franna cranes have telescopic booms and an articulating chassis to provide steering. A 22 tonne capacity AT22-2 model with 17.9 metre boom was the first unit brought in. It is the first new Franna crane to arrive in Europe for over 25 years, said Peter Issitt, Crowland Cranes managing director.
Crowland has more than 50 years of experience in the lifting industry. It operates from three depots in the east of England; the HQ near Peterborough, one near Bury St Edmunds, and the third at Bowthorpe near Norwich.
Solid performance
“Franna pick and carry cranes are highly suitable for multiple industries across the UK due to their versatility, reliability, and superior capabilities,” Peter Issitt commented.
“Several Franna cranes are already in operation across the UK, and our team has been actively supporting them in the field. This hands-on experience has given us valuable insight, not only into the machines themselves but also into the technical and parts support provided by the team in Australia, which has consistently impressed us with their responsiveness, expertise, and reliability,” Issitt continued.
Potential customers can see the new crane on display at the Vertikal Days trade show at the Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire, on 9 and 10 September.
Franna has been going for more than 40 years and other recent expansion includes opening a factory in India and a sales push into the USA. It has also expanded its footprint in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.
Other Franna models in the range include the 25 tonne MAC25-5 with 18.4 metre boom and the range-topping 40 tonne capacity AT40-2 with 19.8 metre boom. They are driven by a six cylinder, 7.7 litre, 210 kW Mercedes diesel engine type OM936. It is available to meet EU Stage V, Tier 4 Final, Euro VI and ADR 80/04 exhaust emission regulations.
